There’s a gorgeous macrame wall hanging in the seaside Airbnb where we’re spending the month. It has all the ocean vibes―a free flowing, wave-like pattern, a blue and cream color palette, and a mix of interesting textures. But it’s the curvy driftwood hanger and the way the design mimics those organic lines that caught my attention.
The phrase “strong as an ox” is often used to describe exceptional physical strength. But what exactly is an ox? And just how strong are they?
Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of strolling along a seaside beach knows the calming effect of the ocean. The steady rhythm of the waves, the tang of the salt air, the ebb and flow of the surf, the sand beneath your feet―it can fill your senses and help you forget the stress of everyday life.
Ocean-based activity makes a substantial contribution to the Canadian economy. As explained by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the marine economy spans a number of industries and sectors including seafood (such as commercial fishing, aquaculture, fish processing), offshore oil and gas, tourism and recreation, marine transportation, manufacturing and construction (including ship and boat building, and ports and harbours construction) and public sector (such as National Defence, Fisheries & Oceans).
Ornamental gardens and outdoor sculptures are a winning combination! Especially when the gardens are a beautiful blend of natural and nurtured landscapes and the sculptures are expertly made and thoughtfully positioned.
Admiring the work of others and seeking advice from experts is all well and good but diving in and doing it yourself is the best way to learn. At least, that’s been my experience with the numerous creative endeavors I’ve tackled over the years. And it proved to be true once again with my most recent effort―textile collage.
